Official Response: Asked whether the Administration's current intention to import flu vaccine conflicted with its long-standing opposition to importing prescription drugs from Canada, Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson responded: "They're completely different. The FDA is assessing the safety of the flu vaccine. It can't do that with individual drugs."

Timely Carotid Clearing Prevents Stroke

Research:Thesevaluable conclusions arebased on a paper in the respected British medical journal The Lancet by Dr. Peter Rothwell from the Radcliffe Infirmary atOxfordand his colleagues in the UK. They pooled data from two carotid surgery trials and analyzed the data to assess the risk of stroke without surgery, the risk of stroke and death due to surgery, and the overall benefit from surgery.

Comment: This is one case where haste does not make waste but rather saves the day.
